10 of the Wildest Outfits in the 2021 Miss USA State Costume Show

This year Miss USA org under new director Crystle Stewart brought back the State Costume show, where each delegate has the opportunity to model an outfit that best represents their home state. As sponsors, Queenly was front row at the fashion show, so check out these costumes that caught our attention!

Fun fact: the state costume show has returned to the Miss USA pageant for the first time since 1993. This year, delegates expressed their creativity through bedazzled headdresses, feathered wings, and intricate handcrafted designs that showcase the rich culture and history of each American state.

Miss Arkansas USA - Stephanie Barber

A recent grad of the University of Arkansas, Stephanie chose a cape and evening gown with rich floral adornments representing the apple blossom, the state flower of Arkansas. The costume was designed by Violet’s Bridal and Formal boutique.

Miss Delaware USA - Drew Sanclemente

Drew, a second year medical student at Sidney Kimmel Medical, chose to represent the royal blue and gold colors of the Delaware state colors as well as the state bird, the Deleware blue hen. Some fun trivia: Drew was once mascot of the University of Delaware-YoUDee the Fighting Blue Hen!

Miss Oklahoma USA - Albruena Gonzaque

Designed and created by Paula Jewell of House of Jewell Couture, Albruena’s costume was a hand beaded and hand painted masterpiece that tells the story of the Tulsa Massacre and the rich community behind it, on the 100th anniversary of the event. Albruena is the owner and chef of Just Veg Kitchen, a plant-based meal service.

Miss Nevada USA - Kataluna Enriquez

Kataluna, a fashion designer who has graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, created her own state costume. This eye-catching display pays homage to the showgirls of Las Vegas, Nevada’s state flag, and state bird. Kataluna has made history as the first openly transgender woman to win a Miss USA state title and compete in the national pageant.

Miss Illinois USA - Sydni Dion Bennett

Sydni, a graduate of the Chicago Academy for the Arts, is dressed as Abraham Lincoln as Illinois is known as the “Land of Lincoln.” The back of her costume is the powerful “Say Her Name” slogan and statement of the movement for justice for Breonna Taylor, a message for racial justice and reform.

A quote from Sydni’s social media: “The front of the scroll represents how far our country has come and the back of her scroll represents how far we still have left to go”.

Miss Utah USA - JessiKate Riley

JessiKate, a former Miss Utah of the Miss America system, is a professional violinist and model. She shows designs inspired by the state’s snowy weather and Utah's slogan, "The Greatest Snow on Earth."

Miss Louisiana USA - Tanya Crowe

There’s nothing more Louisiana than Mardi Gras! Her costume is in the holiday’s classic colors of purple, green, and gold, featuring a fleur-de-lis, the state’s official symbol. Tanya is a Choctaw Native and former cheerleader for the New Orleans Saints.

Miss Kansas USA - Gracie Hunt

Gracie is a masters student at the University of Kansas and an ambassador and advocate for the Special Olympics. Her costume pays homage to the state of Kansas’s motto, “To the stars through difficulties”, and was designed by a deaf and mute Peruvian designer.

Miss Florida USA - Ashley Carino

Ashley studied aerospace engineering at the University of Central Florida and won Miss Florida USA 2021 as her very first pageant. She wore a full feathered pink outfit that represents the flamingo, a native bird of Florida. The flamingo embodies the fun, tropical climate of Florida as well as the rich biodiversity of the state.

Miss Tennessee USA - Elizabeth Graham Pistole

The winner of the 2021 Miss USA Costume Show! Elizabeth’s costume showcases Tennessee as the “Athens of the South”. The metallic armor and spear represents the 42 foot statue of Athena that is housed in a full size replica of the Parthenon located in Nashville, Tennessee. Elizabeth Graham Pistole is the founder of Dancing Divas and Dudes, a nonprofit dance team for individuals with special needs.
