As much as we send each other memes about it online, the start of 2020 has been very difficult for many of us. Most recently, COVID-19 has seemingly taken over the world, consuming almost all of our conversations and completely altering many of our lives. No matter how large or small, everyone has felt the negative effects of this global pandemic.
Ever since the mandatory shutdowns have been enacted, schools and universities have gone remote, commencements and internships have been cancelled, and unemployment rates have skyrocketed. We are stuck at home feeling bored and powerless. Although it is important to recognize the privilege that comes with feeling bored in the first place (people are dying), it is also important not to discredit the toll that this pandemic can take on your mental health.
It is a confusing time where the world feels like it has simultaneously been launched into chaos, yet placed at a standstill. Something like this is unprecedented in our lifetimes, therefore, we have not developed the proper tools to deal with it yet. So, in an effort to inspire the inner boss babe within all of us so we can make it through this together, here is a list of challenges to orient yourself towards during this trying time:
• Reorganize and decorate your room. I love setting up the ambiance with things like candles, an oil diffuser, artwork, and a record player.
In the midst of this madness, there is no use in focusing on things we can not control. Let's all shift our mindset together, and focus on what we can control. For those of us who are fortunate enough to be safe at home, this is the perfect time to really experiment with things that you never had time for before. Work on your mental health and establish rituals that help you feel centered. Take this time to really immerse yourself into your passions and to better yourself so that when we make it out of this, we have become better versions of ourselves, and thus, will have more to offer to the world in return.
