The leaves are changing, the temperature is beginning to drop, and Starbucks has already brought back the infamous pumpkin spice latte, this can all only mean one thing… Fall is upon us! As autumn approaches, we may begin to start looking at our wardrobe and piece together items that follow the latest fall fashion trends.

In addition to fall fashion, another autumn trend that has grown more and more popular in recent years is fall weddings! Fall is the season of change. With naturally rich vibrant colors, cooler weather, and cozier layered clothes, there are a lot of things to keep in mind when dressing for the season. Deciding what to wear as a fall wedding guest can be a tricky task, but we are here to help!

Step One: Know Your Dress Code

The first step in deciding what to wear is knowing what is the dress code for the wedding. Being too overdressed or worse off, underdressed, can be an awkward situation to be in. So, what’s the difference between black tie and semi formal? Black tie weddings are of the highest formality. While men will usually take out their best suits or tuxedos for women it’s common to wear floor length dresses or your fanciest cocktail dresses. Semi formal wedding guest dresses are usually a step down from black tie where you may wear a floor length or cocktail gowns are highly popular with this formality. Knowing what dress code is set by the bride and groom is important to know when deciding what to wear as their guest.

Step Two: Choose your Color

Once you know the formality/dress code for the wedding you’ll be attending, now it’s time to start thinking about color! Warm full-bodied earth tone colors like brown or burnt orange are highly popular to wear during the autumn season. Additionally, if we’re looking to stick to cooler tones at a fall wedding, navy blue or deep green are also fantastic and classy options. Let’s take a look at each of these colors and see them put into play as potential fall wedding guest dresses.

Rustic Burnt Orange

Add a hint of that fall feeling by wearing burnt orange to your next wedding. Wearing burnt orange is a great way to add a pop of color in a way that is muted yet still vibrant. Similar hues of orange such as terra-cotta or copper are also very popular options to wear as an autumn guest.

Brown

If you’re looking to stick with a neutral color at a fall wedding then a brown dress may be the way to go for you! A deep chocolate or muted brown are both classic fall fashion choices. Check out these brown dresses that would be perfect for a fall wedding.

Navy Blue

Blue is a popular color to be worn by wedding guests and more specifically navy blue is a fantastic neutral color to choose that looks good on nearly everyone! Similar to the LBD or little black dress navy is slimming it’s classic and it never goes out of style.

Earthly Green

When thinking of earthy tones, green is usually the first color that comes to mind. We all saw how sage green took fashion by a storm this past spring. Now during the fall you’ll want to stick to more deep tones of green such as forest green or olive green.

Step Three: Choose your Style

Now you know your dress code and you have an idea of what colors to stick to this autumn, the stylistic choices for dresses are endless! Again, keep in mind that weather and temperature can play a role in this decision, but don’t be afraid to have fun or try something new this season.

Fall Florals

That’s right, fall florals! Wearing a floral dress shouldn’t be limited to just the springtime but also, depending on the color of the dress, a floral dress can be a great choice to wear to a fall wedding. Rather than the typical bright and light colored sundresses worn during spring and summer, opt for a floral dress that is longer and/or falls under more deep tones.

Velvet Dresses

Velvet dresses are often thought to be reserved solely for the winter time, but they are an incredible option to wear to a fall wedding too! Velvet is rich, warm, luxurious, and not to mention incredibly stylish. Check out some of these gorgeous velvet dresses.

Fun with Feathers!

Make a statement attending your next wedding by having a little fun with feathers! While feathers may not go with everyone’s sense of style, feathers are a whimsical, fun, and flirty way to enhance an outfit.

Trendy Tulle

Tulle skirts can be an enchanting and romantic option to wear to a fall wedding. From a soft cascading tulle skirt to a more dramatic and full skirted gown, if this is a trend that you are curious about exploring then there are certain things to keep in mind. It’s important to make sure that the shade or color of tulle you are wearing does not come off too bridal. Here are some gorgeous tulle skirted dresses that would be perfect to wear to a fall wedding.

Long Sleeve Dresses

As temperatures begin to drop in the fall, it’s important that our clothes are not only fashionable, but also functional. When deciding what to wear to an autumn wedding, a long sleeve dress can be a great way to look fabulous and stay warm in the chilly weather. Long sleeve dresses look great in all types of silhouettes. From long to short dresses, long sleeves are the way to go!
